WHO WE ARE – THE FLORIDA MILITIA
The Florida Militia is a dedicated community of law-abiding men and women from all walks of life, united by a shared commitment to preparedness, patriotism, and mutual support. We are a brotherhood—diverse in background but united in purpose—focused on learning, sharing, and serving alongside our neighbors through community events, skill-building, and disaster readiness.
Contrary to common media misconceptions, the Florida Militia does not accept individuals with a criminal background or those who promote hate, racism, violence, or discrimination of any kind. We have a rigorous vetting process designed to ensure the integrity, safety, and inclusiveness of our membership. We welcome all responsible citizens who believe in strengthening their communities and upholding the values of our nation.

We live in an increasingly fragile and interconnected society, one that relies heavily on electricity, fuel, internet access, cellular networks, and just-in-time supply chains. These systems are vulnerable—and history has shown how quickly they can fail. Floridians know all too well that one powerful hurricane can disrupt everyday life for weeks or even months. The aftermaths of hurricanes like Irma and Ian are stark reminders of how critical preparation truly is.

Our organization offers comprehensive training and support that is difficult to find in a single source. While there are countless first aid, CPR, tactical, and survival courses available, few provide the structure, credibility, and affordability we offer. The internet is flooded with how-to videos and opinions—some helpful, many not. And professional in-person training across all these areas can cost thousands of dollars.
The Florida Militia bridges that gap by providing vetted, reliable, and often hands-on training from experienced professionals—all within a supportive, community-driven environment.

Are citizen militias legal in Florida?
Florida's Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, unmistakably affirms the right of its citizens to keep and bear arms. To uphold this right and ensure the defense of the State, Statute 250 outlines the critical roles of both organized government militias and unorganized citizen militias. These principles form the foundation of the Florida Militia, driving its mission and operations—all conducted entirely within the bounds of the law.

• A broad spectrum of training that can be used day to day or in dire emergencies
• You will learn things that you didn’t know you needed to know

• The ability to deploy or request assistance in a disaster or emergency situation
• The ability to test your equipment, methods, and skills and get feedback on what works best or how to improve

Do I need a uniform?
No. A uniform is not required to participate with Florida Militia. We always emphasize participation over gear. We prefer that you show up and participate in the various trainings and events and acquiring gear is a secondary objective. Your assigned platoon will provide guidance on what gear you may want to have for effective participation in activities as time goes on. Our standard uniform guide can be found in the Welcome Guide you receive after signing up.

No. Prior military experience is not required to join Florida Militia. Our members come from all walks of life and professions. We do not discriminate against anyone's prior job experience or background.

Is the Florida Militia only for Men?
No. We have both Men and Women who actively participate with the Florida Militia. The Women in our units are very capable and complete the same training the male members do. Many also take on leadership roles within the Florida Militia. If taking orders from a Woman is not something you can do? Then we are probably not the right group for you.

Do I have to attend training to be a part of Florida Militia?
Yes. We actively train on a regular basis. All members are expected to participate in training with their platoons regularly for team continuity, unit effectiveness and safety reasons. We understand that life happens and sometimes attending training on a regular basis is not possible due to work schedules, health reasons, etc. However, members who do not attend trainings on a regular basis are usually removed from our rosters. Members may rejoin by re-vetting at a later date if their situation changes and they can now attend training.
